02/09 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure
Session: 02-Sep-2020, 07:30 to 11:10hrs
Notes: A little quieter on the migrant front today and quite a few tits about by this year’s standards, not flocking though, all crossing the heath as singles or at most three. Many birds dropping in to drink on flood water just outside the enclosure. Two Spotted Flycatchers fed along the fence and in the enclosure but avoided the nets. As for recent sessions numbers are lower so far this year compared to the matching visit and 2019 overall so far.

Weather: Sunny bright, warm calm breezy towards end of session.
Nets: 48metres in 3 net rides, two 18M and one 12M net up from 08:00 to 10:45hrs
Lure (Audio):
Warblers, Misc Migrants, Redstart, Hirundine intermittently.

Recaptures: (2)       Blackcap ringed 04/08/2020, Chiffchaff ringed 03/07/2020
Sightings 30 Species: More Spotted Flycatchers and after a few days pause hirundine moving through, mostly Swallows, also three House Martins and two Sand Martins, the last a scarce species here. Four Gadwall flew south, and the Mallards flew north. Woodlark were spotted flying over the main heath, not flushed them recently at this end of the common. Finally, a Wheatear was feeding out on the grassland to the east of the enclosure for a while.
