Location:
Greenham
Common Western Enclosure
Session: 07-Sep-2020, 07:30 to
11:20hrs
Notes: As the weather forecast was so good, I decided to do a Monday, I don’t
normally do Mondays. A bit of a slow start, we didn’t process the first birds
until 08:35hrs. Mostly phylos warblers early. At about 10:00hrs we captured five
Blackcaps all males and in the same net. The Garden Warbler was a heavy weight at
24.2gms (normal is around 15.0gms), was carrying lots of subcutaneous fat and the
system queried it.
Present: JL,IW
Weather: sunny periods becoming overcast later, cool, calm light
WSW breeze later.

rides, two 18M and one 12M net up from 08:00 to 11:00hrs

Adult probably male Whitethroat

was called in almost as soon as I turned on its song,
landed on a gorse bush for a few minutes just outside the enclosure before
flying off. Several groups of Swallow went straight over south. Grey Wagtails have
started to disburse, two flew over during the session. The grassland to the
east was quiet today.
