06/12 Snelsmore Common

Location: Snelsmore Common Car Park Feeder
Session: 06-Dec-2020, 07:30 to 11:20hrs
Notes: The first time we have ringed as a group since March. This is the first session of the BTO pilot winter CES that we have joined; we’ve been doing something similar for some years though. The only difference being the periods are in days, not twice a month. We had two captures of 23 and 22 before it quietened down a bit, so we quickly got up to speed extraction-wise. A few retraps included a Dec 2017 bird and a couple of 2019 pulli from local boxes; I missed most of the 2020 nest box breeding season due to the covid lockdown. Only about 20% of the pulli were ring-able, the rest being to big to ring or had fledged. It was good to see everyone today.
Present: JL,IW,DLJHW,JPM
Weather: Murky early, overcast low cloud, cold, light breeze.
Nets: 12 metres in 2 net rides, a 6M each side of the feeder, up from 08:00 to 11:00hrs
Lure (Feeders): fat balls, black sunflower, niger, peanuts.
