17/12 Greenham Common

 Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure
Session: 17-Dec-2020, 07:30 to 10:245hrs
Notes: As the weather forecast looked reasonable, I decided to put the nets up in the Western Enclosure just to do something instead of walking about birding. I’ve not ringed this late in the year here before so expectations were nil, I caught eight more birds than expected. None of the species captured had their calls played. We did get some reaction from Redwings but only one was seen to fly into the enclosure and that was while we were doing a net round. After perching just above a net for a few moments it flew off. There is nothing coming to my garden feeder this year, so it was nice to do some ringing and it was just nice to get out on a pleasant winter’s day instead of the dull miserable weather that seems to dominate this winter so far.
Looks like future activities will be limited now we are in Tier 3!
Present: JL,IW
Weather: Bright, sunny, cool, light breeze.
Nets: 48metres in3 net rides, two 18M and one 12M, up from 08:00 to 10:30hrs
Lure (Audio): BC-CC-GC-FC, Thrushes, Autumn, YEBWA

Recaptures:(03)     Blue Tit ringed:   22/08/2019, 05/08/2020

                                 Great Tit ringed: 30/06/2020

Sightings 25 species: A couple of double figure Woodpigeon flocks flew south,  Dartford Warbler called briefly while I was putting the nets up, otherwise pretty much as expected.
