04/08 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure Week 31
Session: 04/08/2021, 07:30 to 11:00hrs
Notes. Completely opposite weather-wise to yesterday and a steady flow of birds to ring. The re-trap Willow Warbler was in full wing moult when we ringed it mid-June and was still in wing moult today- primary one not present and primary 2 was 80% grown. The not long out of the nest Stonechat was an unexpected find in the net as the Stonechats appear to have moved out on the grassland to the east a few hundred metres away. Goldcrest have been scarce so far this year, the bird today was the first for some weeks, and was a recently fledged juvenile; quite late.
Present: JL,IW
Weather: bright sunny, warm, calm.
Nets: 48metres in 3 rides of 18M, 18M, 12M up from 07:45 to 10:30hrs
Lures Audio: Warblers, Misc Migrants, Hirundine(part), Redstart, Grasshopper Warbler(part)

Recaptures:(2)

Dunnock                   ringed 02/08/2021

Willow Warbler         ringed 15/06/2021

Sightings 30 species: Some more swifts high over drifting south. Dartford Warblers including at least one juvenile out on the heath. The pair of Woodlark flew up and over the enclosure, landed and disappeared. No Goldfinch seen at the western end while we were there. Saw the Southern Hawker just as I was leaving and a few butterflies out in the warm.
