24/08 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure Week 34
Session: 24/08/2021, 07:20 to 10:45hrs
Notes: It look very promising when we arrived, lots of activity in the enclosure, mostly phylos. We ringed a few Chiffchaffs but the only Willow Warbler detected was one singing when we put the nets up. The breeze began to increase later in the session, coming from the northeast it affected the nets . A Marsh Tit is unexpected out on the heath; they are not such a frequent encounter in any habitat recently. The Tree Pipit was not as obvious as the one last week and we went through the Svenson reference before being sure; the clincher was that the 5th primary was 4mm shorter than the wing point, on Meadow Pipit is 1 to 2mm.
Juvenile Tree Pipit (looks obvious in this photo)

Present: JL,IW
Weather: warm bright sunny calm early, later overcast, and breezy,
Nets: 48metres in 3 rides of 18M, 18M, 12M up from 07:45 to 10:30hrs
Lures Audio: Warblers, Misc Migrants, Hirundine, Redstart, Grasshopper Warbler

Recaptures:(none)

Sightings:  Swallows moving through without pausing, mostly going west-ish, other than mentioned above nothing unexpected detected.
