28/09 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure Week 39
Session: 28/09/2021, 07:30 to 10:50hrs
Notes: The forecast was not very promising so expectations to complete the session was low.
It wasn’t as windy as forecast, and we nearly stopped when a light shower went over. Not a bad session given the expectation and a Chiffchaff ringed in Yorkshire; still waiting for the Blackcap  re-trap details from last Sunday (the original ring details have yet to be entered on the national database). For the first time in over twelve years ringing at this site one of my mist net pole ground sockets was stolen over the weekend probably for the 150mm nails that staked it to the ground. Not an essential bit of kit but annoying none the less, who would want a 90x90x25mm piece of wood with a hole in it and two very rusty nail I wonder?
Present: JL,IW
Weather: Overcast, light breeze, short shower, then clearing to sunny periods, calm, the wind increased and rain started as we left site
Nets: 48metres in 3 rides of 18M, 18M, 12M up from 08:00 to 10:30hrs
Lures Audio:  Sylvia and Phylos Warblers, Crests, Yellow-browed Warbler, Meadow Pipit(part), Scarce Summer Migrants (chats, pipits, thrushes etc) Swallow (part)

Recaptures:(02)

Blue Tit         ringed: 02/09/2021

Chiffchaff     ringed elsewhere: 09/09/2021 at Upthorpe, North Yorkshire 19days 348KM

Sightings: Swallows going through west until I tried to call them in. Gadwall and Egyptian Goose over north is unusual.
