13/10 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure Week 41
Session: 13/10/2021, 07:30 to 10:50rs
Notes: The good ringing weather continues. Redwings took an interest in the audio some went down in the enclosure, but none netted. There might have been some in the nets however the nets are too fine to detain them unless they get well pocketed. I have a “thrush” net, but smaller birds can get through the mesh. Just one Goldcrest and more Blackcaps, Chiffchaffs etc.
Present: JL,IW
Weather: High Cloud with some sunny breaks, calm to light south-westerly breeze, cool
Nets: 48metres in 3 rides of 18M, 18M, 12M up from 08:00 to 10:30hrs
Lures Audio:  BC-CC-FC-GC, Yellow-browed Warbler, BR-LR-SK, FF-RE

Recaptures:(01)

Robin                         ringed 09/06/2021

Sightings: A Brambling flew over calling as we put the nets up. There was a movement of Redwings in three waves during the morning; 1280 is a minimum count. Flocks numbered up to  around 70, most paused over the enclosure and the audio before landing in the treetops of the woodland to the north. Within the Redwings flocks  we managed to identify three Fieldfares; other may have been present, also some finches, many unidentified but probably Siskins and Chaffinches from the ones we could get colour and features on.
