Common Western Enclosure Week 41
Session: 12/10/2021, 07:30 to 10:50rs
Notes: Unfortunately, I was unable to do a
visit yesterday and it was good
ringing weather
that looks set for the rest of this week. We had a Redwing in
the net, but it escaped before we
got to it. Goldcrest are moving through, about a week later than usual. Still a few Chiffchaffs
around and a late Blackcap or are they early winterers?;
Present: JL,IW
Weather: Cloudy sunny
later, calm, cool
Nets: 48metres in 3 rides
of 18M, 18M, 12M up from 08:00 to 10:30hrs
Lures Audio: BC-CC-FC-GC, Yellow-browed Warbler, Meadow
Pipit, Thrushes (Fieldfare,
Sightings: The first substantial
Redwing flock (26) of the autumn took some interest in the
audio but stayed up in
the trees along the margin of the wood. A small movement of Pied
Wagtails headed west, as did at least two Skylark that went over unseen. A Chaffinch pinked
from the woods and then flew out to a birch
tree on the heath before returning to the woods;
these are a scarcity here since the spring. A flock of more than 15 small finches flew west,
possibly Siskin but we were unsure of the ID. I forgot my binoculars today which didn’t help.
