09/01 Greenham Feeder

Location: Greenham Feeder
Session: 09/01/2022 07:45 to 11:00hrs
Notes: Only 21 birds at this feeder which was trashed by squirrels’ last weekend. The wrecked Black Sunflower feeder is replaced with a small squirrel caged feeder filled with patent seed mix, possibly not the right food since few seed eating birds present so far this year. Left early as the main car park was presumably full and members of the public began ignoring the No Entry sign and parking on the grass near the scrub nets. The pressure on the commons from the human population is immense and growing, hopefully sometime soon most will revert back to shopping.
Present: JL,JHW,IW,DL
Weather: clear, sunny, calm, cold
Nets:  48metres, 12M,12M,12M in scrub and 2 rides of 6M nets one each side of feeder up from 08:00 to 10:45hrs
Lures: Feeder: Niger, Seed Mix, Peanut
Recaptures:(09)
Blue Tit           ringed: 03/11/2019, 01/12/2019, 28/12/2021, 12/12/2021x2, 19/12/2021x4

Sightings: Ian’s list plus some seen before he arrived. I didn’t get round to seeing any
woodcock last year. This year I have seen two already including one I put up when I arrived at
the feeder. Canadas heard only. The area around this feeder is very quiet this winter so far;
the other feeders are not much better though.
