Notes: The weather forecast Sunday showed
Wednesday was going to be clear sunny day, so we decided to do a January visit
to the enclosure just to see what was about. I was a bit late getting onto the common,
had to thaw out the gate combination lock using the heat of my hands, not a nice experience. Apart
from the Blackbird and Goldcrest the only small birds seen to fly across the
heath were two high flying Great Tits. Two of the IPhone players spontaneously
discharged from 95%+ when I turned them on and got a bit hot. There was little
interest in the Redwing audio from the flock that spent much of the period in
the woodland to the northwest. It was pleasant in the winter sun, cheered me up.
Nets:
Sightings: Two Dartford Warblers flitted about the gorse. The Redwings were in two
flocks, one flock came in from the south perched in a tree on the heath before
flying to join the others in the trees along the north woodland margin. There
was a noticeable lack of finch species, only
Linnet detected including a flock of about 50 seen on the way to site just
outside the watching area.
