08/02 Greenham Common Feeder

 Location: Greenham Feeder
Session: 08/02/2022 07:45 to 11:30hrs
Notes: A last minute decision to do session at the feeder as we were rained off last Sunday. I have been putting mixed seed ground bait out, on a tray under a cage to keep the pigeons, squirrels etc out, to try and attract some finches. Unfortunately, the finches have not found the feeder this year so far apart from the odd Goldfinch, not that there are many finches in the area.
Present: JL,IW
Weather: some overcast, NNW blustery, cool
Nets:  12metres, 2 rides of 6M nets one each side of feeder up from 08:00 to 11:00 hrs
Lures: Feeder: Niger, Mixed Seed, Black Sunflower, Peanut, Mixed Seed Ground Bait
Recaptures:(10)
Blue Tit           ringed: 28/11/2021x4, 12/12/2021, 19/12/2021, 09/01/2022, 23/01/2022
Great Tit         ringed: 23/01/2022x2

Sightings: Not much activity, hopefully birds will begin spring passage soon. A singing Woodlark and a good size flock of Golden Plover high over the common, probably the best birds and a noticeable lack of Woodpigeons all morning, the only one detected was a single on the grass on my way out. There are usually big flocks of Woodpigeon at Bagnor but unusually none seen yesterday when topping up the feeders.

Birdtrack track have changed the format of the list and made it much harder to extract than previously; smacks of changing because they can rather than because they need to! Hopefully they will change it to a more extractable format otherwise it is to onerous a will make it inclusion in future impractical; they often fiddle like this then change back.
