Greenham Common Western Enclosure
Session:25/03/2022 07:45
to 10:50hrs
Present: JL,IW
Weather:
Sunny, cool, light breeze.
Nets: 48metres 3 Rides, 18M,
18M and 12M up from 08:00 to 11:00 hrs
Session:
Notes. Speculative spring session just to see what might be about. With no lures the
expectation was low. We don’t get many re-trap thrushes these days so the Song
Thrush ringed here in June as a juvenile was good. None of the birds processed
showed any signs of breeding activity apart from the Dunnock. Got an earful on the way out from a women
who flagged me down and said I had no
right or reason to be driving a car on common land, when I mentioned birds, the
women became even angrier. It is very hard to stay polite sometimes.
Recaptures: (02)
Blue Tit ringed: 12/10/2021
Song Thrush ringed: 29/06/2021
Sightings: A ringed male Dartford Warblers active, singing and seen carrying
nest material. Stonechats and Woodlark appear to have one and two territories
each near the enclosure. Greenfinch nesting in the gorse and at least two
Meadow Pipit territories. Three high-flying Blue Tits on the move west-ish across
the heath.
