12/07 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure (wk28)
Session: 12/07/2022 07:30 to 11:05hrs
Notes: The best session here so far this year. There was movement through the enclosure from the start of the session that continued until we closed the nets, so quite busy. We were concerned that we might be heat affected but fortunately is didn’t get uncomfortably hot until around 10:00hrs. We quickly did the last few birds that included the Firecrest and Stonechats and thought it best to keep their capture time to the minimum, hence no photos. The Firecrest was a recently fledge bird with just a shadow of an eye stripe. The Stonechats were a juvenile and an adult male ; not the male usually around the enclosure as it was un-ringed. The first Willow Warbler of the year, another two Lesser Whitethroats and a couple of the many young Linnets flitting about.
Present: JL,IW
Weather: overcast, light breeze, warm early, clear blue sky calm very hot from about 10:00hrs
Nets: 48metres 3 Rides, 18M, 18M and 12M up  from 08:00 to 10:30 hrs
Lures: Warblers, Misc Migrants, Hirundine, Redstart intermittently.
Male Blackcap the only adult of 15 ringed today

Recaptures:(03)

Chiffchaff                 ringed: 18/06/2017, 20/08/2020

Robin                        ringed: 09/07/2021

Sightings: A largish flock of Goldfinch mixed with some Linnet early, otherwise quiet as usual. No Blackbirds etc probably hidding in the darkest parts of woodland searching leaf litter and avoiding the heat.
