20/07 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure (wk29)
Session: 20/07/2022 07:30 to 10:45hrs
Notes: After the excessive heat of the last few day when conditions not good for the birds it was nice to go out today. Three Willow Warblers and six Chiffchaff all juveniles were in fresh-ish plumage particularly two of the former that were bright unmistakeable birds. Two out of habitat Reed Warblers confirm migration is underway. We ringed three of the four juvenile Stonechats seen. Interestingly about a third of the birds ringed were not species we were luring into the enclosure.
Present: JL,IW
Weather: overcast, breezy, warm
Nets: 48metres 3 Rides, 18M, 18M and 12M up  from 08:00 to 10:30 hrs
Lures: Warblers, Misc Migrants, Hirundine, Redstart intermittently.
Juvenile Reed Warbler
Juvenile Stonechat Male

Recaptures:(00) none

Sightings: Buzzards and Kites soaring high up, no hirundine and a lone swift probably missed many of these, a couple of flocks of Starling flying east-ish, otherwise mostly as expected for the time of year.
