12/10 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure (wk41)
Session: 12/10/2022 07:45 to 11:00hrs
Notes: There was a movement of Redwings through today, some reacted to audio, and one was netted, our first of the year. Also, another Firecrest (the 4th of 2022) with several Goldcrests. Some  of the last were long winged and could be from the north; we have recovered a Goldcrest here at this time of year ringed in Norway two or three weeks before. Seems that Chiffchaff and Goldcrest migration through is running later this year. It is the 2nd best Chiffchaff total since 2013 for week 41 when numbers through are usually in steep decline, and we hope to get one more session in this week, weather permitting.
Present: JL,IW,IQ
Weather: overcast and cold early clearing to sunny spells later, calm
Nets: 48metres 3 Rides, 18M, 18M and 12M up from 08:00 to 10:30hrs
Lures: BC-CC-FC-GC, Thrushes, Yellow-browed Warbler, Misc Winter, intermittently.

Recaptures: (none)

Sightings: Redwings arrived in numbers with groups up to late teens going over and flying about. A species not seen here for a while is Song Thrush. The singleton seen was possibly a continental that arrived with some of the Redwings.
