20/06 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure
Session: 20/06/2024 07:45 to 10:50hrs
Notes: Mostly juveniles today and after no show on Tuesday (18th) several Blue Tits dispersing. Thought we had our first Nuthatch but it’s our fourth in the enclosure since 2010, not really a species associated with the heath. No Willow Warbler or Garden Warbler detected, and we had hopes of a Lesser Whitethroat that began singing near the enclosure about 10 minutes before nets down, but it flew over the net. The matching visit is the same as for Tuesday, we only made one visit week 25 in 2023.
Present: JL,IW.
Weather: Sunny, bright, warm, light breeze
Nets: 48metres 3 Rides, up from 08:00 to 10:30 hrs.

Lures audio: (Warbler), (Misc Migrants), (RT), (GH) intermittently.

Sightings: There must have been a hatch of high-flying insect (dragonflies?) mid-session which the Black-headed Gulls were feeding on, joined by three Jackdaw and a Hobby. The latter soared over us for a few minutes catching the insect and eating them, probably the longest view I’ve ever had, they usually flash through without stopping.
