08/08 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common - Western Enclosure wk2025-32

Session: 08/08/2025 07:45 to 11:19hrs

Notes: Busy early then a pause until the last half hour when 19 ringed. The best birds being the two Lesser Whitethroats. Also caught a Greenfinch but it had grotty foot (Papilloma) infection and was released un-ringed. Can’t recall ever seeing a Greenfinch with this infection before.

Present: JL.

Weather: bright sunny periods, clouding over, strong breeze easing, warm.

Nets: 48metres 3 Rides, up from 08:00 to 10:30 hrs.

Lures audio: (BC-CC-FC-GC-GW-WH-LW-WO),(YW-WC-W.-TP-RT-RZ),(GH),(RT) intermittently.

Recaptures: (00)

Sightings: The Hobby stooped at two Swallows, hit one, but didn’t hold on to it, all flew off ok. There was a good gathering of House Martin late morning and later 5 other Swallows flew south. Might have missed a few species.
