Location:
Thatcham Marsh LNR
Session: 21/09/2025 07:00 to 11:15hrs.
Present:
JHW,IW,JL,KMB.
Weather: sunny periods, light breeze early,
cold strong breeze later, cool early cold later.
Nets: 36+36 metre nets along the reed bed
ride up from 07:30 to 10:30hrs.
Lures (audio): (BC-CC-FC-GC-GW-WH-LW-WO),(YW-WC-W.-TP-RT-RZ),(YB),(RT) intermittently.
Notes: Blackcaps on the move for this session (just under 60% of
those ringed today) and a couple of straggler Reed Warblers and a Sedge
Warbler. The lures called in the Blackcaps, Chiffchaffs and Goldcrest. The
numbers of the last should be increasing as we head into Autumn but just still the
odd bird so far. All the other species are either attracted by the calls of
other species or most likely just passing through. We again have no matching
visit from 2024, we only did one session Sep 2024 at the end of the month, the
other weekends being unsuitable weather-wise.
FG =age indeterminate
Recaptures: (02)
Cetti’s Warbler ringed: 26/08/2023
Robin ringed: 04/08/2024
Sightings: The first decent flock of
Woodpigeon so far this half of the year, seen as we put the nets
up and just
after a flock of about 20 Egyptian Geese followed by five more flew north. The Great
White Egret flew towards Lower Farm GP, quite an impressive bird in flight
appeared to be a little
larger that Grey Heron. A couple of high flying Magpie
flying north is unusual. No hirundine seen and
at least one, maybe more, Siskin
over calling at nets down.
