02/09 Greenham Common Western Enclosure

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure
Session: 02-Sep-2015 06:30 to 11:30hrs
Weather: overcast cool for the time of year, sunny intervals breezy later.
Present: JL, IW, RGS
Nets: 280’ in 5 rides of 60, 60, 40, 60, 60’ up from 07:00 to 11:00hrs
Lure: audio Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Goldcrest, Firecrest, Garden Warbler, Willow Warbler intermittently
Capture 36: Blackcap 7/0, Blue Tit 1/0, Chiffchaff 14/2, Goldcrest 3/0, Great Tit 1/0, Linnet 1/0, Robin 4/0, Tree Pipit 1, Whitethroat 1/0, Willow Warbler 1/0
Recaptures: Chiffchaff 26 days old and another (32 days) from Brimpton GPs ringed by JPM)
Age Range: 1st summer except: an adult Chiffchaff and a Willow Warbler

Tree Pipit 1st summer

Notes: A steady trickle of leaving migrants through the site; perhaps one of the last Willow Warbler and Whitethroat of the year. Three Goldcrest; they usually start coming in Sep and an influx of Robins after a few weeks when they have been scarce on the heath. The Tree Pipit probably the best bird of the day, we captured two here on the 19/08/2013 and have only captured about 11 since the group formed 50+ years ago. Linnet was also an unexpected capture.

July- August Summary: The general Impression is that we are not doing so well this year but that is not what the following chart shows.
Note: this is just for the Western Enclosure and I was ringing elsewhere on the common as well in 2012 and 2013; 2014 I was away from the 17th for the rest of August
