Notes: It started spotting
with rain so I stopped putting more nets up after three rides but the weather
cleared. Just a trickle of Chiffchaffs (6) until 08:30 when a big mixed
warbler/tit flock passed to the east of the enclosure; probably 80+ birds. Some
doubled back into the enclosure and we captured most of the sylvia warblers and
the blue tits then. The 35+ Long-tailed Tit group continued over towards the
bunkers. Phylos warblers seemed to be few in the flock and we did not capture any
until later at 08:55 when they suddenly began moving through again including
Willow Warbler. A nice and manageable morning’s capture including a couple of
late-ish warbler species; Garden Warbler and Lesser Whitethroat.
Sightings 35 Species: A 15 strong
flock of Siskin flew in as I arrived. Early there was little activity in the
scrub unlike Wednesdays visit. As the weather
brightened birds began to move through. The Stonechats and Dartford Warblers spent
most of the time flitting around the margins of the enclosure without going
in. We had some near misses with low flying Swallows at one stage. No thrushes
seen or heard and most of the Robins present on Wednesday appear to have moved
off. We searched for the resident Woodlark flock (4) but could not find them
apart from a possible sighting; bet they were there
 somewhere very close!
