Notes: It is always surprises
that few birds linger at this site with a gap of just a day and no recaptures at all.
This is quite common even when ringing the next day. It is noticeable that
some of the warblers are carrying increasing amounts of fat as the season
progresses. It was very quiet when I arrived, didn’t look very promising at
all with little visible in the surrounding scrub. As soon as the audio started a steady trickle of captures continued for the rest of the session tailing off as it
got breezy. A good passage of Chiffchaff today hopefully a good passage of
Blackcap is yet to come. My “new” method of using the black of my car as a
background make photographing less of a chore. Don’t know why I didn’t think of
it before.
Sightings 34 Species: The Spotted
Flycatcher was a good spot by IW in the trees and understory scrub of the
nearby wood; couldn’t entice it out to the enclosure though. The same goes for
the large flock of Siskin that keeps flying to and fro over the heath. Not
sure if the relatively early arrival of the latter is a sign of a good
breeding season (in the UK) and/or a lack of food further north.
