Notes: The Chiffchaffs keep coming! Started in fog with
one or two Chiffchaff calling in the bushes; they responded to the audio
immediately together with a Blackcap and a Goldcrest. For the
rest of the morning a steady trickle of between three and six Chiffchaff
captured with the occasional Blackcap and Goldcrest. Mid way through as I
tried to ID a thrush that responded to Fieldfare/Redwing calls I was
distracted by a Redstart in the bottom shelf; a long winged (86mm) immature
male (yes I checked the other species unfortunately traces of a white supercillium showing). A steady capture continued for the rest of the morning,
Chiffchaff still being capture as we took the nets down.
Sightings 29 Species: The usual tit/warbler flock occasionally appear but did not cross the heath near us. I think birds were
dropping “out of the sky” all morning. We saw a Blackbird and the thrush and
some other small birds doing this. There was a lot more Blackbird activity
generally than of late; probably birds in from further north.
