Notes: Conditions when I arrived were better than expected with very little wind interspersed with an occasional gust; eventually session abandoned as the wind got too much. Bird-wise there was much less activity than yesterday. While the putting up the nets a Chiffchaff and Wren called in the compound; usually there are no birds. The first net round produced a two Chiffchaff and a Blackcap and a trickle of these continued for much of the morning. Just one Goldcrest today and eventually the Wren also captured. Around 10:00hrs a Dartford Warbler that had been seen earlier sang briefly in the gorse near the nets and a short burst of song from the audio brought and immediate response and capture despite the strong wind. The Dartford song was turned off immediately as required by my license for this species as I presumed it to be territorial. Following processing the last three birds we abandoned the session half an hour early to avoid the nets being stretched by the wind.

Sightings 32 Species: A pheasant calling from the woods towards the car park eventually flew out on to the heath; probably a refugee from a nearby shoot. A mixed tit/warbler flock flew east along the margin of the wood but did not cross the heaths Later IW spotted a male Redstart flitting around a birch tree before disappearing into the wood. Red Kite and Buzzard soared on the wind over the heath and a few hirundine went east. Several birds sunned themselves in the gorse; a Great Spotted Woodpecker did the same high in conifer top above the wood.
