06/03 Greenham Common 616 Feeder

Headlines: Late posting as Mothering Sunday took over the household. It was a good session and nice to have some new people ringing with us. We started with a small capture of three followed by one of 20 consisting exclusively of Lesser Redpoll and Siskin. Several single digit captures followed then one of 22. Lesser Redpoll and Siskin dominated with a Chaffinch, a few tits and the bird of the morning a female Brambling. If we are to capture any we usually capture them from now until April.  Later in the morning tits began to arrive and a few Goldfinch; unusually these were absent early in the session. The final two captures of 10 and 9 had a reasonable mix of species. By the time we took the nets down a large flock of Goldfinch, Lesser Redpoll and Siskin had gather waiting for us to go; around thirty of the former could be seen on and grounded around the feeders as I locked the gate.
Weather: Sunny, sometimes overcast, cold, mostly calm, it seemed to get colder later.

Nets: 40metres in rides of 12, 10, 12, 6 metres up from 08:00 to 11:00hrs

Capture (New/Recapture) 79 (44/35) plus 8 same day recaptures:  

Blackbird 2/1, Blue Tit 3/5, Brambling 1/0, Chaffinch 1/0, Coal Tit 1/0, Goldfinch 1/3,

Great Tit 2/3, Greenfinch 1/0, Lesser Redpoll 8/10, Long-tailed Tit 0/1, Siskin 24/13

Recaptures: 35 all less than 100 days except: Blue Tit 1y 139d, 126d Great Tit 2y 103d, 1y 139d, Lesser Redpoll 1y 363d, 105dx2 The Siskin ringed elsewhere captured again; hopefully we will find out where now we have submitted Feb data.
Age Range: all 1st winter except Adults Blackbird 1, Blue Tit 2, Great Tit 2, Greenfinch 1, Lesser Redpoll 2, Siskin 2.
