Location: Snelsmore
Common Feeder
Session: 10_Nov-2016 07:30 to
11:10hrs
Headlines: The only bird seen at
the feeders to date since I put them up was a Great Spotted Woodpecker on the
08/11 so I had very low expectations for today. A nine birds capture is low,
but at least we captured some. This site is usually very good for Coal Tit as
well as the usual Blue & Great Tits but not many are visiting any of the feeders
yet. Hopefully they are foraging in the trees still, as autumn has been very
mild until the last week or so. We don’t recapture many pulli Nuthatch so one
from box CP07 (about 30metres from the feeder) is a good start otherwise as
with the Estover feeder very quiet.
Weather: Sunny periods,
relatively calm, cool
Present: JL, IW
Nets: 12metres in two rides
6M, 6M each side of feeders up from 08:00 to 11:oo hrs
Lure (feeders): Fatballs, Black
Sunflower, Peanuts
Capture (New/Recapture) 9 (7/2):

Recaptures: (2) Blue Tit 1y 2d, Nuthatch 181d pulli from box CP07
For interest here are species list for the 1st visit from previous five years. It look like there was a low capture in 2013 that I had forgotten so hopefully numbers will increase as the season progresses.

Sightings 25 Species: A steady flow of Rooks and Lesser Black-backed Gulls south and croaking Ravens the only notable sightings. Nine Little Egrets in the trees near Duck Cottage on the Bagnor to Winterbourne road on my way back is the largest gathering I have seen for sometime.
