24/10 Greenham Commn Western Enclosure

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure
Session: 24-Oct-2018 07:40 to 11:15hrs
Headlines: More Goldcrests today including one ringed here two years and four days ago. There was some movement again today, Redwings on the move showed only a passing interest in the calls; must be from further east or north than Latvia. The two Lesser Redpoll were a surprise as we had not seen any before and those flying over have shown little interest in their calls so far this season. A late Chiffchaff today shows there are one or two still about.
Weather: overcast breezy early, sunny periods and calmer later, warm in the sun.
Present: JL, IW, RJC
Nets: 48metes in three rides of 18m, 18m, 12m up from 08:00 to 11:00hrs
Lure (audio): Redwing, Meadow Pipit, playlists: BCCCFCGC, Autumn intermittently.

Recaptures: (2) Goldcrests ringed 23-Oct-2018 and 28-Oct-2016
Lesser Redpoll 1st winter male

Sightings 32 Species: Ian’s list, Golden Plover numbers increasing, they were trying to rest on the Fire Plane Gravel today but think they kept getting disturbed. Redwings busy again and three Fieldfare accompanied by three Blackbirds landed briefly in a bush. We think many of the unidentified finch flocks are probably Chaffinch.
