23/06 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure
Session: 23/06/2021, 07:10 to 10:50hrs
Notes: A much better session weather-wise. A mostly Long-tailed Tit flock came across the heath just as we put the nets up, we ringed about 50% of the flock; this capture accounted for about half the session total. The first summer Blackcap of the year, one of many we hope. A visit from the “beagle” people and dogs is a worry occurrence, hope it doesn’t become regular.
Present: JL,IW
Weather: bright, sunny , a few clouds, light breeze, warm
Nets: 48metres in 3 rides of 18M, 18M, 12M up from 07:30 to 10:30hrs
Lures Audio: Warblers and Misc Migrants, Hirundine, Redstart
Todays juvenile Blackcap
Sightings 34 species: A few more species about today, the Lesser Whitethroat was still in the nearby scrub; not responding to audio though. Woodlark and Dartford Warbler made an appearance today but no sign of Stonechat. A single Mistle Thrush flew over the woodland margin the first this summer here and two Little Egrets went south. Swift were high flying and mostly picked up when looking at soaring birds of prey.
