09/07 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure Week 27
Session: 09/07/2021, 07:05 to 10:30hrs
Notes: It has not been a good week as unable to ring most days. Mainly due to the weather but also did CES 2021.07 that was rained off at the weekend. Had to leave early as going to L’Ortolan for lunch, so started earlier than usual and the road gate to the car park was open so able to get on site quicker than expected. Manage to get one of the juvenile Stonechats that have been around the enclosure for the last week or so. The 2015 (5-year-old) Goldfinch ringed at the Greenham Feeder is a good recovery, it was a 1st calendar year when ringed. As expected from week 27 Willow Warbler numbers have begun to pick up, wonder how many we would have got if we had been able to do the usual three or four visits. Two of the Willow Warblers were just ending there summer moult, so their plumage was pristine. Reed Buntings usually not seen here until around September.
Todays 1st calendar year female Reed Bunting

Present: JL,IW
Weather: overcast, cool, light breeze calm and warmer later.
Nets: 48metres in 3 rides of 18M, 18M, 12M up from 07:30 to 10:00hrs
Lures Audio: Warblers and Misc Migrants, Hirundine, Redstart

Matching visit dates for week numbers are a bit out of sequence between years for 2021

Recaptures:(02)
Chiffchaff      ringed: 30/06/2021
Goldfinch      ringed 01/11/2015 at the Greenham Feeder

A very quick recovery report: The Spanish Blackcap recaptured yesterday on CES session 2021.07 8th July 2021 had been ringed: 09/09/2018 at Cabezarrubias del PuertoCiudad RealSpain 1445km. Somewhere in the triangle formed by Tolado, Saville and Granada (the nearest places I know off!)

Sightings 26 species: Another quiet session, only species of note: One then four swallows dipped down on their way through attracted by audio but not low enough for the nets.
