14/12 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure Week 50
Session:14/12/2021, 07:40 to 10:50hrs
Notes:  A random visit to the enclosure just to see what might be about produced six birds, about what we expected. The black billed Blackbird with a 137mm wing, a 1st CY, is probably a winterer from northern Europe. The audio pulled in Redwings and Fieldfares who perched in the top of the enclosure scrub just above the nets before flying off.
Present: JL,IW
Weather: overcast, light breeze increased through session as wind moved round from a south-westerly to southerly, cool early colder later.
Nets: 48metres in 3 rides of 18M, 18M, 12M up from 08:00 to 10:30hrs
Lures Audio:  BC-CC-FC-GC, Yellow-browed Warbler, BR-LR-SK, FF-RE, MP

Sightings: We counted the Jackdaws going out, as usual, mostly in groups of three or four until a flock of about seventy went up from the main heath opposite the bunkers, put up by the tractor gorse cutting. A couple of good size flocks of Redwing and a few Fieldfare came over from the trees to the south. Several overflying silent anonymous finches seen, just black silhouettes against the sky.
