Location: Thatcham Marsh LNR CES 5 of 12
Session: 11/06/2022 06:00 to 11:00hrs
Notes: We tidied up the rides and mowed the grass last week. There are
still fewer than usual acrocephalus warblers on our part of the reed bed. Those
that have returned appear to favour the line of the Moor stream that is
overgrown with phragmites rather than the main reed bed. The Reed Warbler
ringed 2020 at Titchfield summered with us in 2021 (23/05/2021 to 08/07/2021), has
been re-trapped once already (06/05/2022) here this year so is likely to stay
for the summer again. It possibly crosses the channel from Cap Gris-Nez near Calais
and work its way along the coast to Titchfield and then moves inland or more
likely crosses from the Cherbourg peninsular to Portland Bill or nearby and
along the coast to Titchfield. Juveniles of eight early breeders species ringed
today and is the first substantial sign of post fledging so far this year.

Sightings: 36 Bird Species Cuckoo male still calling and bubbling call of female heard, this is getting late for this species. The usual groups of Swift circling over. A Red Kite

back a few moments later for another go.
