23/07 Thatcham Marsh LNR

Location: Thatcham Marsh LNR CES 9 of 12
Session: 23/07/2022 06:00 to 11:00hrs
Notes: A few juvenile Reed Warbler today including (age 1J) recently fledged individuals; we can be certain they were from a nearby nest(s). The Titchfield ringed Reed Warbler is still with us, has stayed all summer so far. The second Great Spotted Woodpecker of the year, reed bed not their usual habitat. The first Willow Warbler on this site for 2022, a few years ago they bred here, reason they are no longer regular is: changing habitat, also global warming; species range is moving north. Nice to catchup with Rachel again; bit jealous as she has been up in Arran ringing Golden Eagle, Hen Harrier, and several species of wader pulli! Not sure I could handle hanging off the side of a cliff even with a safety harness.
Present: IW,JHW,IQ,RAD,JL,NC
Weather: sunny, clear, calm warm
Nets: 198metres in 1 ride, 18Mx11 reed bed ride up from 06:30 to 10:30 hrs
Lures: None
Recaptures:(05)
Reed Warbler    ringed: 01/05/2021, 11/06/2022, 03/07/2022
ringed elsewhere: 08/08/2020 (Titchfield Haven Hants)
Wren                  ringed: 10/07/2022

Sightings: 32 Bird Species: The Mistle Thrush was unexpected, we have not seen one here for a year or two and the Willow Warbler is probably a passage bird. Cetti’s Warblers were relatively quiet, no Red Kites seen?
