31/07 Thatcham Marsh LNR

Location: Thatcham Marsh LNR CES 10 of 12
Session: 31/07/2022 06:00 to 11:15hrs
Notes: Bit of a fraught start this morning, some nice person has jammed a foreign object in the key slot of the lock, so we couldn’t unlock the gate. Decided to park cars at gate and walk down and put the nets up while Duncan went home to get a table to work from. Fortunately, on the way back he ran into some very kind anglers who loaned him one of their keys providing it was returned to an address in Thatcham after the session. The Reed Warbler total of 6 is the lowest ever for visit 10 matching the same total of 6 in 2018 when the total ringed was also 17. We have four totals of 1 for Sedge Warbler going back to 2003, in 2016 and 2018 none were captured on this visit. With two visits left it is may well be one of the poorest years since we started in 1993. At 339 with two visits remaining it is above the full 12 visit total of 337 for 2016. Trouble is we tend to remember the good years when looking back and forget the low total years. Over the 28 years of completed CES, four totals have been around 350 or less and another four below 400.
