Location:
Greenham Common Western Enclosure (wk30)
Session: 29/07/2022 07:30
to 10:50hrs
Notes: Some more Blackcap
and Garden Warbler, two Goldcrest and a Whitethroat were the main interest today.
Seems to have been a good year for Blue Tits. Phylos warblers are a bit scarce,
Willow Warbler in particular; their peak week through is week 32 and numbers
should have begun to increase this week but no sign so far. The only one detected was
singing rather feebly out on the heath for about five minutes when we were
putting the nets up. Unusual to re-trap a Garden Warbler from a week or so back, the don't usually hang around this time of year.
Present: JL,IW
Weather:
bright, sunny, clear, light breeze, warm
Nets: 48metres 3 Rides,
18M, 18M and 12M up from 08:00 to 10:30
hrs
Lures:
Warblers,
Misc Migrants, Grasshopper Warbler, Redstart, intermittently.
Recaptures:(01)
Garder Warbler ringed: 08/07/2022
Sightings: Think the heat
subdued any visable movement. The Fox looked to be a youngster that ran across the heath from the Sandleford
direction and disappeared in the gorse nearby. There was probably a Black-bodied Chaser that interacted with the Brown Hawker briefly and disappeared before I could be sure. No
Greenfinch today, the several family parties have moved off it seems. One call from a
Skylark going over somewhere up in the
blue; seems a bit early for passage.
