28/09 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure (wk39)
Session: 28/09/2022 07:40 to 11:00hrs
Notes: Much better weather conditions today. Thought we had an interesting phylos because its wing formula was very different 2nd P=5th P. That is until we checked the other wing and realised that it was missing the 2nd primary on the 1st wing checked. Interesting to re-trap a Blackcap ringed at Thatcham Marsh LNR down in the valley 17days ago.
The Cetti’s Warbler re-trapped on Sunday 25th Sep at Thatcham Marsh LNR had been ringed by Hughenden RG at Jubilee River, Slough 24/06/2020 (46KM)
Present: JL,IW
Weather: sunny periods, light breeze, cool
Nets: 48metres 3 Rides, 18M, 18M and 12M up from 08:00 to 10:30hrs
Lures: Warblers, Misc Migrants, Yellow-browed Warbler/Crests, Redstart, intermittently.

Recaptures: (02)

Blackcap                  ringed: 11/09/2022 at Thatcham Marsh LNR

Goldcrest                 ringed: 12/10/2021

Sightings:  More hirundine moving southwest in small groups throughout the session.  A Woodlark was singing somewhere over the bunkers.  A single Raven flying north as did three Mistle Thrush, the first we have seen here for a while, and the Song Thrush dropped in from quite high up; maybe the first of many thrushes from the north. The Kestrel, a male, and  the Rook are not often recorded at this end of the common.
