12/02 Greenham Common Feeder

Location: Greenham Common Feeder Winter
Session: 12/02/2023 07:40 to 11:10
Notes: Mostly Blue Tits again including three ringed the same day in 2021 and the first Great Spotted ringed here this winter. No winter finches coming to the niger at any of our winter feeders; there seems to be very few about in the Newbury area. The last time we had triple figure numbers at feeders was for Goldfinch 2019, for Lesser Redpoll 2016, for Siskin 2016, for Chaffinch 2014 and for Greenfinch 2015. The last two species populations have been decimated by disease which is still widespread, so recovery is slow.
Present: JL,IW,DL,NC,JPM
Weather: overcast, cool, calm.
Nets: 12M, 2 rides 6M each side of feeder up from 08:00 to 11:00hrs
Lures: Feeders – Black Sunflower Seed, Peanuts, Niger
Recaptures:(07)
Blue Tit  ringed:19/12/2021x3, 13/11/2022, 27/11/2022
Great Tit  ringed: 28/11/2021, 13/11/2022

Sightings: A singing Woodlark early, Song Thrushes also singing, otherwise not much happening.
