02/04 Thatcham Marsh LNR

Session: 02/04/2023 06:55 to 11:15hrs
Notes: The first session of the year on the reed bed via a new access bridge provided by BBOWT. There looks to have been a few Chiffchaff moving in or through the site. Otherwise much as expected. No Sedge Warblers yet, they usually arrive mid-April, the earliest since 1972 here is 02/04/2012 and 05/04/2009 so an early one any day now.

Weather: Overcast, dull, dank, spotting early for a while, breezy, cold.
Nets: 298Metres, 1 reed bed ride up from 07:30 to 10:30hrs
Lures: None.

Cetti’s Warbler ringed: 11/04/2021
Chiffchaff            ringed:  08/02/2021
Long-tailed Tit    ringed: 11/09/2022
Wren                   ringed: 10/07/2022

Sighting: A good movement of Sand Martin seen assembling for a while high over towards Thatcham Nature Discovery Centre Lake and at least one Swallow flew through; probably others with the martins. Pochard and Tufted Duck pairs were on the small pit nearby.
