27/06 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure (wk26)
Session: 27/06/2023 07:40 to 10:45hrs
Male Stonechat that was ringed as a juvenile male here last year; note "brown" flight feathers fringes.
Notes: Two more Lesser Whitethroats today. I don’t particularly target the Stonechat on the common, so it was nice to re-trap the above ringed as a juvenile male in Jul 2022 and one of only four re-traps of the 88 ringed at the Western Enclosure. The Willow Warbler was an adult male when ringed in Jun 2020 and was the first time it has been encountered since ringing.
Present: JL,IW
Weather: overcast, some sunny periods light to breezy wing warm
Nets: 48metres 3 Rides, 18M, 18M and 12M up from 08:00 to 10:30hrs
Lures: Warblers, Misc Migrants, GH, intermittently.

Recaptures: (02)

Stonechat                ringed: 20/07/2022

Willow Warbler       ringed: 23/06/2020

Sightings: It was what we didn’t detect today that was as interesting as what we did. We didn’t hear or see any Magpies, Blackcaps, Garden Warblers, Robins or Dunnocks; the species total is quite low for this time of year. It was the first cooler day for some while so there was little butterfly etc activity.
