12/07 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure (wk28)
Session: 12/07/2023 07:35 to 10:50hrs
Notes: Took a risk with the weather again today and just about got a way with it; just one light shower for a few minutes. A few birds through but the nets were wind affected and some birds could see the nets, and some bounced over. We did ring a juvenile Robin though so there are some on the heath. The next couple of weeks should be peak movement time for Garden Warblers and it looks good for us to exceed our Lesser Whitethroat total of 11 in 2019. Hopefully the weather in the coming weeks will be better than is currently forecast.
A good recovery received of a Willow Warbler ringed here at the Western Enclosure on the 02/08/2022, re-trapped Zomergem, Oost-Vlaanderen, Belgium 15/08/2022 - 337km in 13 days.
Present: JL,IW
Weather: Cloudy with clear spells, cool, blustery breeze, short light shower mid-session
Nets: 48metres 3 Rides, 18M, 18M and 12M up from 08:00 to 10:30hrs
Lures: Warblers, Misc Migrants, GH, RT intermittently

Sightings: Swift mostly drifting south. usual singletons, but one group of four. The two Swallows were also heading south over the trees. The Greylag Goose and Little Egret are the first for a while here.
