Location: Thatcham Marsh LNR CES 2023.08
Session: 16/07/2023 06:00 to 11:00hrs Notes: It was very windy for the whole
session, just on the limit. Worth the effort though particular when we ringed a
Tawny Owl; thought it to be the first here including
for the whole of Thatcham Marsh but we ringed an adult male visit CES 2004.01
net ride 1A on the 01/05/2004. Otherwise, the lack of resident post breeding birds venturing
on to the reed bed continues.
Adult female Tawny Owl
Also, we have gained a member of the
Gower RG for the summer break.
Present: JHW, IW,JL,DL,KMB,NC
Weather: mostly
overcast with clear periods later, blustery wind, warm-ish
Nets: 198M reed bed ride up from 06:30 to 10:30hrs
Lures: None.
Nets: 198M reed bed ride up from 06:30 to 10:30hrs
Recaptures:(11)
Blackbird ringed: 18/05/2019
Blue
Tit ringed: 08/07/2021
Reed Warbler ringed: 08/07/2021, 21/05/2022, 03/07/2022,
03/06/2023x2, 11/06/2023, 02/07/2023
Sightings: Despite
the wind there were one or two insects on the wing and once regular, the
first Cardinal Beetle I have seen here for a year or two, also Grey Squirrels are
scarce on the
marsh; perhaps a sign of scrub
maturing to woodland.
