18/07 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure (wk29)
Session: 18/07/2023 07:35 to 10:50hrs
Notes: Ideal ringing conditions today and the best session of the season so far – 34 birds. Blackcap and Garden Warbler moving through, no sign of any Willow Warbler though and just a singing Whitethroat east of the enclosure. These latter two species should be going through in numbers based on previous years wk 29. Had a juvenile Chiffchaff with no emargination on the sixth primary, either wing. Had a close look but not able to make it other than a Chiffchaff wing point 4/5thP and 2nd P  length between 7/8P, wing length 55mm and weight 7.1 grams also matched Chiffchaff; plumage was as for this species.
Present: JL,IW
Weather: overcast, sunny at end of session, calm, warm
Nets: 48metres 3 Rides, 18M, 18M and 12M up from 08:00 to 10:30hrs
Lures: Warblers, Misc Migrants, GH, RT intermittently.

Recaptures: (00) none

Sightings: Swift feeding over the trees early. The only notable over-flyers were three Lesser Black-backed Gulls flying east southeast. My first Painted Lady of the year.
