Location:
Greenham Common Western Enclosure (wk35)
Session: 29/08/2023 07:40
to 10:50hrs
Notes: Another Redstart and Firecrest both bright males also a Marsh Tit
probably dispersing
from the nearby woodland. Singles of Garden Warbler and
Willow Warbler, the former species is
down to the odd straggler or two usually
to Week 37. The latter species numbers also dropping
away though we get a
flurry around week 35 to 37 some years. Nice morning’s ringing.
Present: JL,IW.
Weather:
0vercast early clearing to sunny periods, calm, warm
Nets: 48metres 3 Rides,
18M, 18M and 12M up from 08:00 to 10:30hrs
Lures:
(BC-CC-WW-GW-WH-LW-GC-FC),
(W-WC-SF-RZ-TP), (GH-RW-SW-RB-AW), (RT-DW) intermittently.
Sightings: Fairly quiet this morning, few Jackdaws flying out, probably the main
flock is out in the fields (maybe to the south) being harvested. It is
surprising what can be pulled into the enclosure from the surrounding apparently
bird-less scrub and heathland. The butterflies appeared when the cloud
dispersed, and the sun came out near the end of the session.
