Location: Greenham Common
Notes: Most captured on the
first round with just ones and twos on subsequent net rounds. Goldcrest
numbers
should build from now on, probably continental birds arriving to winter. The Song Thrush, the
first we have ringed here since 2021, was long winged (123mm
when about 117 to 120 is the norm for
locals) so this one was probably also from the Northern
Europe.
Present: JL,IW
Weather: cloudy with sunny periods, cool, breezy.
Nets:
48metres 3
Rides, 18M, 18M and 12M up from 08:00 to 10:30hrs.
Recaptures none
Sightings: Signs of winter with more Blackbirds about than usual, also Song Thrush. A steady
movement of Swallows going through south in threes and fours (one group of 10+) for most of the
morning. Several groups of Starling flying east and the first Siskin, a high flying bird over SW. Two
Chaffinch is notable for here. Woodpigeon numbers are increasing, probably some were moving south.
Still some Butterflies and Dragonflies on the wing.
