29/09 Thatcham Marsh LNR

Location: Thatcham March LNR.
Session: 29/09/2024 07:00 to 11:30
Notes: The first time we have been able to ring here since the last CES visit 12 on the 25/08/2024, mainly due to the weather but also, other commitments that coincided with the only suitable weather conditions for ringing. We had hoped to ring the last Reed Warbler and Sedge Warbler of the year, but no sign of any today, unsurprisingly as they seemed to have had a poor breeding season in common with many other species. Probably the best species was the Marsh Tit, but also Reed Bunting, we don’t get many on the reed bed in recent years. Disappointingly despite the audio power (seven speakers running throughout the session) we didn't call many birds in.
Present: JL,JHW,IW,IQ,NC.
Weather: overcast, calm, cool.
Nets: 54metres in one reed bed ride 36m,36m,18m net along ride up from  07:30 to 11:00hrs
Lures (audio): (Warbler), (Misc Migrants),(RT),(YB),(AQ,RB,RW,SW), (Hirundine) intermittently.
Recaptures:(03)
Robin                  ringed: 23/06/2024, 04/08/2024
Wren                   ringed: 14/07/2024

Sighting: Water Rail squealing in the scrub near the cars, might have seen Redwing but light was too poor to be sure, the fox ran from the reed bed scrub across to the pit scrub and the Sparrowhawk flashed through and over the railway embankment south.
