19/10 Greenham Common Western Enclosure

Location: Greenham Common Western Enclosure
Session: 19-Oct-2016 07:45 to 10:20hrs
Headlines: Not very busy today. Looks as if the recent rainy weather has pushed all but a few summer passage migrants south and hopefully most winter migrants still to come; captured two Chiffchaff though, would have been more but in the windy conditions at least one other bounced out. Not very good netting conditions really. Three Redwings came down to their song, must have been Lithuanian, unfortunately I was at the nets and scared them before they could settle. Similarly  a Grey Wagtail, called in I think by the Yellow-browed Warbler calls, perched on the top of a mist net pole, saw me and flew off.  A five minute visit, on the way off the common, to the 616 feeder produced: Blue Tit 5+, Great Tit 2+, Marsh Tit 1 and Great Spotted Woodpecker; surprisingly little food taken yet.
Weather: Sunny but sometimes overcast, light wind that grew stronger towards the end of the session, cool.
Present: JL
Nets: 48metres in three rides of 18M, 18M, 12M up from 08:00 to 10:00hrs
Lure (audio): Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Firecrest, Goldcrest, Yellow-browed Warbler, Siskin, Redpoll, Redwing, intermittently.
Capture (New/Recapture) 5 (5/0): Chiffchaff 2/0, Goldcrest 2/0, Goldfinch 1/0
Recaptures: none
Age Range: all 1st CY
Sightings 24 Species: The first Siskin of the autumn for me flew over just as I was leaving. Very little movement otherwise except a few Woodpigeons flying south.
