20/10 Greenham Common Western Enclosure

Goldcrest Morning
It was spotting with rain on arrival and the wind was quite blustery but tolerable and it felt a bit colder. The usual three nets up from 08:15 to 10:45hrs. Reason for moving from usual format is that we captured just 11 Goldcrests, all 1st CY, seven males and four females, no recaptures. There was no sign of any warblers today. We did call down some Siskin and Redpoll but not low enough to get captured. Thanks to DL for helping and to IW just back from Portland, and who is mainly responsible for the increase in sightings over yesterdays.

Sightings 31 Species: The usual Redwing flock was grounded feeding over towards Sandleford Heath and also a few more Siskin and Redpoll about today. A sudden burst of over-flying around mid-session saw the first Fieldfare flock of the autumn and two flocks of Teal, also a lone Golden Plover.
