21/10 Greenham Common Western Enclosure

Bit of a pain this morning. Managed an early start but there was a new lock on the common gate. It was a five digit one rather than the four of the previous one, tried several variations of the code that I knew to no avail. Nobody at 616 knew the new code so after trying another gate that had a different lock on went through the three gates on to the common via the 616 compound. Just as I was locking the gates up Roger arrived and told me what he thought the extra digit was. This proved to be correct as I found out later on exit; stops you getting bored I suppose! The morning was even quieter than yesterday with just four new 1st CY male Goldcrests captured during the 2 hours 30minutes plus session. We did get some reaction from several Redwings that dropped in but none captured.  It looks as if the season here is all but over for another year; still hoping for a Firecrest though. Setup as earlier this week (JL, IW, RJC)

Sightings 26 Species: Not much movement today Redwings still ground feeding in numbers on Sandleford Heath and the first Bullfinches seen here for a while. A part from the Goldcrests little sign of any passage through the site
