Location:Thatcham
Marsh LNR Session:18-Jun-2017 06:15 to 10:30hrs. Headlines:We decided to do an
additional CES visit, finish early and do some maintenance; cut the grass
in the rides etc. Things didn’t go to plan however. First just three turned
up; Gina and Simon arrived late morning. We decided to cut the rides before
putting up the nets and it got to hot. The mower started and then stopped and
would not start again also I forgot to bring my PPE so the strimmer was also a
non-starter. We put nets up at about 07:30.
The capture was ok but the number of Acrocephalus in residence seemed down with Sedge
Warbler very scarce. We did capture the first juvenile Reed Warbler of 2017 a
very recent fledging its tail being short and still growing. One of the Reed
Warbler was a bird ringed elsewhere that we also captured last week; details
of original ringing probably know soon after the end of June. Weather: Weather very hot and
humid on the reed bed and calm. Present:JL, IW, DL and later
GB, SC. Nets:234metres, 198m
standard net ride on the reed bed and 36M in two rides scrub nets up from
07:30 to 10:00hrs Lure (none): Capture (New/Recapture)
