Location: Greenham
Common Feeder Visit 06 of 10
Session: 26-Jan-2018 07:45 to
11:30hrs
Headlines: Not a very good
capture today, in fact the lowest visit six total we have had at this site. Interestingly we captured no 2nd winter birds this session. The food
here is not going as fast as usual. Also the birds seem to be aware of the
nets since as soon as we take the nets down they are back on the feeders. If
it continues might try a visit later in the day, a different configuration or
even move the feeders. We have very few Goldfinches this year and no Redpoll
yet; the 2010/11 visit six included 40 of the last. Both these species have
attended the feeder in good numbers in the past but over the last couple of
winters they don’t seem to have visited as early in the year. Think they stay
further north in the recent mild winters. There is still time for them to turn
up though; it was mid-February last year.
Not had a good week generally, the central
heating boiler failed last Saturday and it took five days and £93.00 for what
was really a digital box of matches.
Weather: Few spots of rain,
cold, sunny periods, calm, breeze at the end.
Present: JL, IW
Nets: 34metres in rides of
10M, 24M, 24M up from 08:00 to 11:00hrs
Lure (feeders): niger, niger, black
sunflower, peanut, black sunflower
