04/11 Greenham Common, Estovers Feeder

Location: Greenham Common Estovers Feeder
Session: 04-Nov-2018 07:35 to 11:30hrs
Notes: Rain was forecast but as it was not raining at 07:30hrs we put the nets up, expecting it to rain at any time. Fortunately, with only a few spots occasionally we were able to do a full session. We captured all the Great Tits early with the odd Blue Tit. Mid-session it was mostly Goldfinch and Greenfinch and then it went quiet. At nets down, we captured most of the Blue Tits, both at the feeder and from the scrub nets. The latter also provided the Long-tailed Tits and the Marsh Tit on the final round. Despite the weather, a good session with same total as last year’s matching session. Interestingly we ringed more Coal Tits last year, Great Tit numbers this year are up though.
Weather: Overcast, occasionally a few spots of rain, breezy, cool.
Present: JL, IW, RJC, DL, JHW
Nets: 58metres three rides around feeder and two rides in gorse scrub up from 08:00 to 11:0hrs
Lure (feeder): niger, black sunflower, peanuts, black sunflower

Sightings 35 Species: Ian’s list: we were quite busy so a few may have been missed. Some movement of winter thrushes that were mostly heading in a westerly direction. A fairly average list for the time of year.
